“We should be jointly and severally responsible for the environment. The annual environmental responsibility rating will serve as an incentive for oil and gas companies to reduce the negative impact on the environment,” said Sabit Nurlybay, Vice-Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan. According to him, the positive experience of the past year showed an increase in the level of publicity and openness of oil and gas companies. The rating was created to reduce the environmental impact and improve the efficiency of hydrocarbon resources use, as well as to encourage socially responsible business in Kazakhstan. In addition, the rating helps to create and accumulate quantitative data to calculate the industry average indicators for discharges, emissions and waste.
